Frequently asked questions

What screening do I need for disability support work?

Registered NDIS providers must make sure workers in risk-assessed roles hold an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance. You apply to the worker screening unit in your state or territory, and a clearance is valid for up to five years.

What check do I need for aged care work?

Since 1 November 2025, aged care workers generally need either a police certificate no older than three years or an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance. The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has said a new aged care check is planned, so check its screening page for the latest position.

Do I need a qualification?

Some employers hire people with no formal qualification and train them, while others ask for a Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33021), which includes ageing and disability specialisations, or relevant experience. Each ad lists what is required.

Should I pay to be listed as a support worker?

Never pay a fee to apply for a job. You may pay a screening check fee to the government agency yourself, but never to an employer or recruiter.
