Indeed UK: How to Search Smarter and Apply With Confidence

How to get more out of Indeed in the UK: the filters that matter for shift, driving and remote roles, setting up job alerts, using company reviews and spotting fake adverts.

Indeed UK is one of the busiest places to look for work in Britain. It pulls together adverts from employers large and small and from recruitment agencies, which makes it a good first stop for driving, warehouse, care, retail and remote roles. The trick is to use the filters well, so you see the right jobs rather than thousands of loosely related ones.

What Indeed is

Indeed is a job search engine. Employers and agencies post vacancies, and you search by job title or keyword plus a location. Alongside the job search you will find company reviews written by employees, a salary guide that shows typical pay reported for different roles, and tools to create or upload a CV. Using Indeed is free for job seekers.

Who it suits

Indeed suits almost anyone, but it is particularly strong for hourly and shift work. Searching "Class 1 driver", "warehouse operative", "care assistant" or "customer service" in a large town usually returns a long list, including agency roles that can start quickly. Because agencies post heavily on Indeed, it is also a good place to find temporary and seasonal work.

How to search well

Start with a specific job title and your town or postcode, then use the filter bar at the top of the results:

  • Pay narrows results to adverts that show pay in the range you choose. Not every advert lists pay, so try with and without this filter.
  • Remote shows jobs that can be done from home. You can also type "remote" into the location box.
  • Job type separates full-time, part-time, permanent, temporary and similar options.
  • Date posted helps you focus on new adverts, which are often less crowded.
  • Education level and Encouraged to apply help if you are new to work or lack formal qualifications.
  • Industry is useful when one job title, such as "driver", covers very different work.
  • The distance setting next to the location lets you widen or narrow how far you search.

Use the words employers use. For lorry driving that means terms such as "Class 1", "Class 2", "C+E" and "tramper"; for care it means "domiciliary", "support worker" or "live-in". Try two or three variations and compare the results.

Setting up job alerts

Indeed's help centre explains that you must be signed in to create a job alert. Run your search, scroll to the bottom of the first page of results, enter your email address and select Activate. You can change the frequency or pause alerts later under Settings, then Communications settings. A daily alert for each of your two or three best searches is usually enough.

How to apply

Adverts marked Easily apply let you apply through Indeed, often with your saved CV and a few screening questions. Others send you to the employer's or agency's own site. Before you click, read the whole advert, check the hours and location, and look at the company page and reviews. Tailor the first lines of your CV to the role: for a driving job, put your licence categories and Driver CPC near the top; for care, mention any experience caring for others and whether you already hold a DBS check.

Staying safe

Indeed's own help centre warns that texts or calls claiming to be from Indeed might be a scam. Be cautious if a "recruiter" moves you straight to WhatsApp, offers high pay for very little work, or asks you to pay for training, equipment or checks. Never pay a fee to apply, and never share bank details until you have a written offer from an employer you have checked independently.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to use Indeed?

You can search without one. Indeed says you must be signed in to create job alerts, and having an account with a saved CV makes applying quicker.

What does Easily apply mean?

Jobs marked Easily apply let you send an application through Indeed, often using your saved CV. Other adverts send you to the employer's or agency's own website.

Why do I see the same job twice?

The same role can be posted by the employer and by one or more recruitment agencies. Check the company name and location so you do not apply twice.

Is it safe to share my CV?

Share only what an employer needs. Leave your date of birth, National Insurance number and bank details off your CV, and never pay a fee to apply.
